Every filmmaker knows that every film has a book behind it. L.A. SALAD is no different. I wrote its original concept back in Philadelphia while working as a bar-back at Xfinity Live! and a sale associate for a GNC store. At the time, it was called just A Date. I know. very original.

My working week would be 50-60 hours. I could afford 4 or 5 hours of sleep a day. I had time to write only during my commute to work or during my walk to a nearby Trader Joe's. I had to work out during my breaks at work just to stay inspired and keep my vision above the grinding reality. It's all worth it. It's not the first time I had to embrace my reality so I could have enough energy to build my future. It's the only life I have known so far.

It took me a few months to save up some money to make my move. I did not seen my parents for six years. I did not visit Armenia for thirty. The need to re-connect with the people who gave me life and the land that gave me roots was strong. I quit my jobs, bought a two way ticket to Armenia and then California. I made up my mind that I will keep pursuing my creative vision in Los Angeles where I started my American journey. I have to say that working with Steven Michael Studios and getting a phone call from Brian Medavoy were two major experiences that solidified my choice.

After spending a month with my parents enjoying Armenian food and getting in touch with my childhood, I flew to California. That's when I send my original concept to my close friend and film collaborator Gregory R.R. Crosby. After a few rewrites, we brought on board Iris Svis my other good friend and collaborator. Although we filmed it in one day, the postproduction, music and sound design, took another year. But at least we had something to celebrate during the tough Covid-19 months when L.A. SALAD was finally ready to be served in festivals.

If you have watched Greg's and my previous films The "Janitor' and No Fancy Ride, you will recognize certain style in this satirical film. I am proud to say though that this trilogy where a desperate actor or a guy tries to have a normal date with all the odds against him is finally completed. We have moved on and currently developing two films that we believe will help people happy and appreciative of their family lives.

For now, enjoy L.A. SALAD and stay healthy and inspired!
